I like the music when it "Rocks", but he seems to think that if that is going on, then he needs to be screaming.

    I detest and loath Slamhound.

I think Poison is shit, but many here love the hell out of them. Why shouldn't I find a way of getting across that I think they suck, but the playing is good, the vocals are well done, and if you enjoy the Sunset style, you might enjoy it? I have heard enough of the style to know what somebody who enjoys it might like. I try to get that across. That's the challenge of this stuff, IMO. I'm trying to be objective, and not pointless.

There was a review here in the US for the recent Curious George movie. The reviewer gave it a "Thumbs Down" (it was Richard Roeper from Ebert and Roeper), but then went on to say it was a great movie for kids, and pre-schoolers, but for him, it didn't work, so don't go see it. It took Ebert to drag the "great movie if you are a kid" out of him. His review was completely worthless. He reviewed it for himself, which is not the point of his job. The job of a critic is to take on the mindset of the people listening. If the album (or movie) is not meant to cross boundaries, then you put your head into the people who it was made for. If it fails on all levels, then you take it to task for being crap.

I think a reviewer should try to put across both point of views (which you have done well). One view being you own personal view and another view of those who I the product is aimed at.

I know how hard it is to review something which isn't your style, so trying to look at it from the point of view as those whom it is aimed at is important.

For example, with movies (say a disney cartoon) there is no piont reviewing it from a 50yr olds point of view when it is aimed at 5year olds.

Similarly with music, if you get an iron maiden fan to review heart throb mob, you'll undoubtedly get a much different review than someone who is a fan of pretty boy floyd.
